I am ball.

With a very small team (of just two this year) Frauliens have delivered some... uh... memorable films previously. This year is no different with a very unique and hyper-succinct musical animation. It was fun, simple and, happily, entirely inoffensive :)

According to Plan

A very sweet tale and a good execution of "found footage". It was simple and effective.

Wimballdon: The Life of a Champion

A great film that took to the Against the Odds genre with a documentary style in a very compelling way. There is a little twist early on in the film and then it carries on hilariously to deliver a great against the odds chronicle of one participant's journey to the top. Unfortunately some pre-shot stock footage likely renders the film ineligible for competition, which is a shame as it was solid technically with a very funny and well executed story.

Dumb Found

I've seen many films in 48HOURS over the years where it feels as if the writers were too familiar with their concept and backstory, therefore somehow overlooked the fact that they'd not put those aspects into the script. This was another of those films. After a while it becomes basically apparent that the film involves some sort of imagined parallel adventure in the mind or minds of a few patients with some sort of mental health issue, but it was never really clear what the imagined quest actually was. Unfortunately I think that poor quality sound in the very beginning of the film may have further contributed to this.

Splitter

Splitter revealed a clever conceit toward the end of their film, but unfortunately the setup for that was unclear and ambiguous. Early on it was unclear, for example, who was supposed to exacting the revenge.
