Chasing the Horizon
A ballsy, solo performance entry which got a great reaction from the audience. This film starts strong, with our protagonist digging into a jar of pickles to find an ominous warning in a brilliant reveal. The charismatic performance clearly channels the great Matt Berry (which is never a bad thing). The climax of the film employs some hilarious back-and-forth between the two foes. Looking forward to viewing this a second time to catch some of those quips. Kudos for going all in on this, Especially that farewell kiss!
CATASTROPHIC
A cat performs a daring heist to steal what else but a can of salmon. A simple story executed well. After seeing a few animal POV films already this year, I was initially on the fence, But this one had me sold with the excellent use of paw puppetry and a dark turn that will have any cat owner watching their back.
The Crowning
Sweet baby Jebus! Beautifully shot and directed with what has to be the most ambitious period piece ever attempted in the comp. Stunning production and cinematography. storywise I was a little lost in terms of the monster. It became clearer with the end low angles and subsequent title gag. Almost the complete polished package, I just wish this had resolved a little more in the tone of the rest of the film. Bloody epic though guys!
Redbelt
This was superb! Packed to the brim with perfectly paced comedy. Really remined me of the great films from Moffilaide back in the day. In all the best ways. Loved it!
Walcom to New Zillund
A very slick and hillarious retro premise with style. Nicely shot and edited from the intro to the ultimate showdown. The best secret weapon, In what looked to be period accurate packaging? Great work!
Lover's Got the Runs
Conceptually brilliant and toilet humor done right! They took their genre and ran with it. Incredibly well put together. Writing, Direction, Cinematography, Sound. All immaculate. Where the heck is everybody finding all these beautiful churches to shoot in this year!?? The performances were all top-notch, The pacing was perfect and it ended on just the right note. I would be very surprised if we don't see this film play at least once more this year.
Sweets
Never seen anything like it.. Not sure exactly what I saw, Not sure I want to know.. For anyone on the fence over generative AI, This might be the perfect example of its usefulness as a tool. Or its danger as a tool when applied by the mind of Tim. A very sweet film that leaves a confusingly pleasant taste in the mouth.
