Bad Rock
It was great to see the Auckland Heats open with a beautifully framed shot of Lion Rock, at Piha. More lovely cinematography followed, plus some recognisable faces (hello Wendy's burger guy!) and an intriguing premise. Well acted and put together, with a funny ending, but I did find myself wondering how the story fit together overall...
Surprise
"Surprise" indeed! Loved the mounting sense of fear in the first half - 100 film points for expert manipulation of the audience's emotions. Cracking second half too. Cheers!
Where Do The Children Play?
Terrific little piece of work, shame it wasn't eligible for voting. Visually superb, with crisp HD visuals that had a subtle Super 8 look to them. Also, excellent acting from a very young cast. Felt a bit like "Bully" by Larry Clark, or something by Gus van Sant, with a nice little sting in it's tail.
Porn Film; Untitled
So far I'm the only one writing reviews, so I may as well give our team's effort full marks. We thought it was funny, anyway. Sorry the audio mixing was so horrific...

Choose Hers
Quirky little bodyswitcher, marred by a lack of technical chops. Would have helped if there was more clarity in establishing the two lead characters before they are switched, but I did love how the switch itself took place! Screw magical idols - it's all crazy alien dudes from now.
