Dogs Breakfast
I think we may have lost a few people with our film this year. Not sure that people actually picked up the 'what really happened' events in black and white at the end. The story seemed a lot more rushed than it did when we were cutting it so I'll be interested to hear what people made of it. I also realised I managed to cut out a couple of fairly key pieces of dialogue :) Goes with the 48 hours, no sleep, too close to the whole thing though. I'm still happy with the film, the look of it, the shots, despite a couple of sound issues, and we had fun making it. For the guy at the heat that shouted out 'I want some coffee' at the end, I should let you know she's actually only 14. Thanks to our team of friends and family who I enjoyed working with.
Slimer
Looked alright but what the was the point. It was a bit of a dogs breakfast..
Puppy Love
Sorry, what was the game being played? Was it chess??
I liked the opening shot, it was done really well. A lot of the acting was above average, and the camera work was, on the whole, very good- I liked the abundance of closeups, and felt they worked well with the feel you guys were going for. I always enjoy it more when people pull off a (mostly) serious film, and you guys did. I think the ending was a little confused, but I think I got it- no one killed her, and it was all an accident, yeah?

Some of the acting was cringe-worthy, the freeze frame just wasn't posed right (it felt awkward), and I couldn't tell if it was trying to be anti-lesbian or something or just get a laugh? There wasn't alot to the story. By far the elderly lady was the absolute best actress in this though - I liked her performance.
EMP
Had a very filmic quality to it. Interesting idea of uncovering how a woman fell to her death and all the characters moves and motives. It was a little jarring at times and didn't quite hit the nail on the head but a good effort none the less. The young actress was very good and may have a bright future in acting.
Good effort - could have been clearer with the ending, it was a bit rushed. Bit of a mix on the acting - some really good, some.... not so much :-)
It's always hard reviewing a friend's film, but I am going to try to do this as objectively as possible, and as fairly as I have done other reviews. I knew in advance that Dog's Breakfast were going away from stop-motion Lego and on to a serious live-action film, which helped ease my disappointment a bit. I really didn't like their film as much as last year. While generally OK, the cinematography was pretty rough in places, and the audio got a little fuzzy. Some of the acting was a bit over the top, and the lines didn't always seem natural or comfortable to the actors. However, Dogs Breakfast do have a wicked sense of humor and a firm grasp of irony, and while some were a bit confused by the ending, I didn't really have much of a problem grasping it. Sure, they left themselves a few plot holes trying to create twists, and the story was a bit generic, but I had fun watching it, and it wasn't a struggle keeping awake as it was with some other shorts in this heat. This team's bursting with creativity, and I think the animation medium really helped them express that last year. There's just too many immaculately polished films out there which left this one looking a little shabby.
