Shelfman

This film excelled with a very clever and amusing script. The storyline led to many laughs and was a pleasure to watch. Unfortunately, sound quality was fairly poor throughout the film and it was difficult to hear a number of the lines which was a pity as they were frequently funny. Lighting likewise was lacking, and many of the scenes were too dark. The cinematography was fairly ordinary too, and this led to a very semi-professional look to the film. However, well done on an excellent story, that made for a very entertaining film nevertheless.

I really enjoyed this film! It was very clever, and funny. I especially loved Shelfman's two consecutive one-liners. He should have known better. xD Anyway, I'm not great at reviews. So please bear with me... I thought that the characters were portrayed well. The villains were suitably hammy, but in a good way. I don't remember much about the lighting and sound, though I don't think they were bad enough to annoy me, so they can't have been that bad. In fact, from what I can recall, I think the lighting was pretty good. Good luck to you guys! I think you have potential, and it would be awesome if you at least made it to the city final. ^^

EFG are bunch of roughneck filmheads with a long way to go before we can really enjoy any of their 'masterpieces'. They have ambition, drive and plenty of time to get it right, but...their work seems too rushed. No, thats not right, more like frayed or threadbare. The EFG are young film-makers, no doubt, but doesn't cut them any slack when they're in competition with similar aged competitors like The Thunderbolt Kids, The Pow-wow Rangers or Hobo Pictures. For this reviewer its the inherent, even required, silliness of their films that I feel is really holding them back. The thin, reedy quasi-female voice used (too often) by this group is not suitable for this competition. Frankly its just not funny. Their 2010 abomination still haunts my nightmares. Ugh. Audio is improving, but hardly ever on target, no visual effects to be spoken of and the scripting department needs a damn good overhaul. Fellas, read a play! A book! Any of Syd Fields works on screenwriting will help or watch a good film, without popcorn and beers. Still, the audience laughed, the Protagonist was suitably awkward and self-effacing, and the running gag ran its dash. An improvement, but Can Do Better.

This is one of the best short films I've ever seen. The absurd hilarity of Shelfman, the witty dialogue and a rather catchy theme song, I honestly couldn't stop laughing throughout the whole thing.

I would like to begin somewhat off-topic by declaring my secret love for EFG's film from last year. Despite shockingly poor audio, video, and breast-authenticity, it had a shaggy charm which I could not escape. This year, they have vastly improved the quality of their technical side, as well as improving on the accessibility of their humour. 'Shelfman' features an often very funny script, nicely surreal moments, and some good acting. There is the occasional feeling that they are trying really hard to be silly/funny, but this doesn't diminish their film too much. If you keep improving at this rate, next year very well may be your year! Go forth and rock, dudes.

I must say, you gentlemen are definitely funky in every sense of the word. Who could have ever guessed you could get so many shelf puns into seven minutes? I think that the script was brilliant, and the story was well crafted, especially the part where he loses his powers of holding things up, my face for the entire movie was something like this :D. For some reason the idea of completely useless super heros being revered always appealed to me, and that's why this movie worked so well. I tried to think of a shelf one-liner(or two!) to finish this off with, but I got nothing, so I'll just say; I love you Shelfman!

You could help but laugh at this. Great advertising of V too, but to say other aspects were seriously home movies quality would be an understatement. Full marks for the script though.

My 12 year old daughter thought this was a very funny film - it would probably apeal to younger kids too - and it was quite funny, if a little odd! Some good ideas - gravity man etc - although the costumes looked like they were from a dress-up box..... However, some nice locations and I liked the freeze frame ending. Well done guys!
