A young man takes a canvas to a hillside road and starts drawing. However, not just any drawing, but one which apparently has the power to alter reality, or is it that the drawing creates reality? Either way, very cool concept and had some of the best uses of the elements so far (Especially the prop) The artistic shots (bringing from soft focus into focus quite a bit throughout the film) were a bit too artsy for artsy-sake in my book, but the film had a deliberate tone so I can appreciate why they were done that way. The acting was good and the music score fit perfectly.

Amazing idea, this film had a fantastic concept, execution was stunning, some of the visuals looked so professional it was baffling to see this young bunch of boys stand up to take their well earned applause and ovation from the audience. Some of the best shots of the heat came from this film. These 4 or 5 boys should be proud of their accomplishment. The intro for this flick reminded me a lot of scott pilgrim, the whole audience loved it. :)) 8.10

I felt this film was one of the most impressive of the night! It was amazing to see that so few people could conjour up such a captivating and creative idea. The idea that This man could alter reality with his sketch pad is very ingenius and I felt intrigued for the duration of it. Perhaps what I loved most was the ending, the way the " Magicman" gives Bobby the power to change, well that is at least how i interpreted it. The intro was easily the best I have so far seen! It created a beautiful contrast with the very artistic film that was to follow. It left me with a feeling that you young boys have an amazing range of skills and are up to the chalenge. A great film. 5 stars

Great cinematography and score, acting was also pretty good although I couldn't help but feel that the actors didn't quite fit their roles. The whole thing was a bit on the pretentious side, but as a technical example of what can be achieved in 48hours its hard to beat.

simple story and very executed. only one problem (with me probably) i didnt get the bicycle bit. Arty, (literally) but not so much as to lose the non-thinkers

I thought this film was simply amazing. The directing and camera work is some of the best I have seen, pleasing to watch and unique. It had a very professional touch to it, which was astonishing as they had such a small crew. Very impressed by acting also, they looked very comfortable in their roles and delivered the story admirably. The concept was very original and had great development as we saw the character Bobby realise, with the help of the 'magic man', that he doesn't need material objects to survive, hence why he was given water and a jacket to keep him warm. He eventually learns this and is able to draw a bike so he can get home. The score for this film was definitely the highlight for me, it fit the piece perfectly and created an atmosphere that gave the film a lot of depth. The score reflected the scenery as well as the concept, showing the beauty of New Zealand and the adventure the two characters were on. The works featured in this piece were very advanced for such a young composer, a big thumbs up to him. My favourite part of the score was when Bobby was sent back to the top of the hill, I thought this was quite playful. Great job Couch Kumaras, keep it up.

I think this idea could have been explored further, I wish he had drawn a picture of them back at the stable, after a day of 'mucking around', Bobby says to Micky, "golly oh my, what a day my friend, such a hard day". You think thats hard" says Mickey...

I quite liked this film. Nice imagery and style, mysterious. A little arty for me to totally get what was going on, but some clever visual concepts well executed.

I really enjoyed this film! I found it more intriguing than the others because the open story of which can be interpreted in many ways. The cinematography was amazing and it was nice to see such complex shots achieved without any special effects. The composer ought to pat himself on the back for an amazing score, without which the film would have lacked its captivity. Both actors did a very adequate job. I am bewildered to see such a great film come from such young and perhaps un-established people when compared to the very large and professional crews you are put up against. For just a few mates from High school, congratulations on punching well above your weight!

This short let flow beauty with an ideal amount of humour, by heavily contrasting the wonderful camera work and score with a well acted bombastic Bobby Young. I must say I found this character particularly enjoyable with his unique characteristics, in combination with a calm "Magic Man" It was brilliant to see this teams interpretation of the "Road Movie" really come through. It certainly worked having Bobby change throughout the journey, ending with a resolution for his problem(what ever that was, my guess would be his greed) A few things here and there could have been tidier for my liking, for example some of the shots were a little shaky, but really I am only nit picking. Exceptional short with a intriguing idea.

Boring, formualic, glossy garbage, no semblance of substance what so ever, I don't see what the fuss is about.

hahahahah this did feel a bit like a trashy telecom ad hahahahaha good shit

"Beekeeper" sucks.

This film was incredibly well put together with an amazing story and believable characters! Very, very well done to Couch Kumaras for an incredible entry. :)

This was disgustingly safe, tame, childs play. I think the comparison between this short and a telecom ad is bang on. It was tacky, schmultzy shit and I couldn't wait for it to end.

A lot of the 'acting' in this film made me cringe. It was if the dudes wanted to make out or something, one dude was running around in his fucken undies? Is it just me or was there some heavy homo overtones here? You'd think he'd draw the guy a pair of pants or something, fucken art perv.

Default Avatar slothface69

Shit film.

Very well shot and great music. It was a interesting concept that lost momentum about the midway point for me, personally. I think it tried a little too hard to say something profound and meaningful, but overall i liked the effort.
