What a great way to incorporate the character Nicky Brick into a horror, making his horrible luck turn him into an accidental serial killer. I really dug the middle of this short and how it cut between different time-stamped scenarios, plus it had a great lead. There are only three things that disappointed me: 1) It really could have used an event that triggered Nicky's stroke of deadly unluckiness. 2) The date scene could have brought out some great tense situations but it only hinted at it. 3) That it was disqualified, because I enjoyed this one a lot.
An ambitious and often hillarious Horror comedy filled with a clever use of the 'unlucky' character trait as the main hero ends up accidently killing what seems like dozens of people! The film had a nice build to it with a series of unique death gags and funny moments! Although there were a few bad cuts and occasional bad sound, the films high intentions were clear. Well done.

Fun take on the horror genre that didn't take itself too seriously. Could have used slightly snappier editing at points, but that's only a minor criticism. The bit with the turps didn't match the tone of the rest of the film, and the ending was generally weaker than the rest of the short, but I still really enjoyed it.

[Watched in the Screening Room] The concept of Nicky Brick accidentally killing people because he is so unlucky is hysterical and a great use of the character. That being said, I felt that as funny as all of the deaths were it probably would have been beneficial for the team to cut out a couple of them because the short dragged slightly in the middle. The story was nice and simple and, apart from the fact that the love interest turned into a homicidal maniac a little too suddenly, I felt that it worked pretty well even if it dragged a little in the middle. The cinematography was generally pretty good with some nice framing and good colors and I felt that the editing was generally good except for a few bad cuts like the cut to the woman walking angrily down the hallway towards Nicky. The score was also quite strong, gave off a nice horror vibe and really added to the continued showing of the time as a black on white title card. While the other technical elements were strong, where this film was really let down was the audio. It sounds like this was recorded on the camera's internal microphone but even if it wasn't the way it was recorded led to some major issues. Wind noise is prevalent throughout the short, sometimes so strong that I found the dialogue hard to hear, and the sound is not edited together well with almost every visual cut changing the soundscape quite drastically. As this wasn't a dialogue heavy short I think the team should have considered using ADR for all of the dialogue and building the entire soundscape in post-production. The elements are integrated nicely, especially the use of Nicky Brick as stated above. It is a shame this film was DQ'ed because I feel that they might have been able to get a nomination for best use of character. Overall most of the film was pretty good but this team really needs to work on their sound and that is the main reason I only gave them 2 1/2 stars.

Some awesome shots, fine acting from the handsome Emlyn... Emlan? Em... lin... And Kaylee... Keighlee... Kayleigh? Such great shots. Nicely timed, lots of fun, pretty tight. Just the right rate of decline into ridicularity.
