Best film of the heat in my opinion. The film was technically slick, extremely well thought out and very coherent. The end of the world one shot seems like a difficult idea to pull off, but due to a well-constructed script which used the idea of impending apocalypse to allow for the examination off basic yet well-defined character relationships, it worked. The acting was largely great, especially Nicky Brick. The drunk scientist wasn't the greatest character idea in the world, but it worked well enough. The ending left me with no real sense of finality however. The most difficult thing about one shot, from my point of view, is creating tension and a coherent story without cutting. The film was so close to being really great, but the script structure seemed like one for a slightly longer short with more room for character development across an ensemble and because of this the characters weren't developed enough to give the ending real weight.

Technically impressive for its genre given that it appeared to have steady framing, lighting and sound throughout as well as the actors giving reasonably strong performances. I do however get the feeling that most teams getting this genre (or choosing End of the World, as the case of 1 shot may be) took the example picture of Melancholia perhaps a bit too literally. Still, this had a decent idea with several different individuals gathering about a potential apocalypse; the skeptic reporter, the drunken scientist and the unemployed pregnant women amongst others. Probably good that it created more questions than answers in presenting the whole science vs other argument.

Very good one shot. Sound was OK but could have been better with less colored indoor reverb and clipping/distortion.. I could feel the tension going with those nice transitions especially.. lightning was shadowy in wrong places at some places but cinematography was excellent smooth anyhow My biggest disappointment was though the lack of ending..

Really good film, they had One-Shot and went with end of the world as the genre and pulled it off amazingly well, nice smooth transitions through the film, a few different locations without ever feeling rushed towards each. The story moved us around the locations very well, great acting by everyone and the David Spade look a like played his role well. Funny use of the prop and beautifully executed one-shot. Would have loved to see all the business behind the camera, actors moving everywhere, lights, tables to avoid trips. Would have been very exciting to be a part of.

STORY: 3/5 CINEMATOGRAPHY: 2.5/5 EDITING: 2/5 SOUND DESIGN/SCORE: 3/5 Really like how this team dealt with the constraint of one shot and creatively executing it with fastforwards as oppose to, one shot real time. Some good performances in the cast with decent dialogue. However, story felt a bit slow at certain areas and tension didn't hold me to the end.

The Gathering was a clever approach to the 'one-shot'. I really enjoyed the techniques used to 'cut' scenes. This film was enjoyable to watch with the acting being one of its strong points.

I really liked how you sped up the camera movements to show that time had passed by.

This is the genre I'm most looking forward to seeing from the comp, and ApeOnAWhale Group did a great job with it. It was nicely shot with scene transitions and time elapses that were very cleverly executed. I thought the story was set up well, with a nice mix of characters well performed. However, I feel that the last third of the film didn't quite hit the mark and would have benefited from more of a build up in tension ie, via increased pacing and/or conflict. Overall a good effort though. Oh, and I really liked this team's 30sec intro. Great to see a team do an intro that didn't seem like an afterthought.

Am not a film maker - just an audience member, so am just commenting on the entertainment aspect. I don't know why but this film just didn't do it for me. The acting was good, Visually it looked pretty good. Must have been the story line then, for me it didn't really flow. It felt long and I wanted some kind of energetic conclusion - yet that never arrived. Am probably being a bit harsh - sorry.

Really nice little short! 'One Shot' is hard to pull off - remember, everything has to be done in one take, with no edits, so I think the team did well at that. End of the World is a rather overdone sort of genre, hard to put an original spin on that, so I also think they did well at that. A good effort all around.

Acting was superb! And the shots looked nice. Very creative story, and the characters were very real and believable. I love how they didn't bother explaining what was the cause of the apocalypse or show the actual end...it works really well. The short created tension, and left it up there by the time the credits rolled. Great short

Changing film speed and camera rotations were a cool way of changing scene and shifting time, keeping to the one shot rule. Where did they put the lighting rigs? The leaf dropping in slomo produced an audible intake of breath from the audience, Beautiful shot. The cinematography, lighting and sound augmented a solid acting performance from the cast. It would be interesting to see the other one-shot films as a single group to compare the execution of the genre.
