The strongest film of the heat and they've certainly topped their previous efforts but I feel like if they pushed themselves more and took some risks they could produce something on a whole new level. The film is sort of a mockumentary style film in which a Doco crew follows inventor Vic Meyer as he combines various objects into one in an attempt to make the next best thing. It had some great dialogue etc. etc. and of all the films in the heat this is the most likely to progress to the city finals.

Phenomenal art direction and an exceptionally endearing performance by the charming inventor didn't overcome (for me) the fundamental flaw here: the genre. This wasn't a crime film - at all. The subject of the (TV show, Doco?) gets robbed - but that doesn't make it a crime film. The interviewer seemed totally miss-cast - and should have been played by the older man with the amazing voice - who we would have believed as a television or doco host. The immense detail in the images only confused (for me) the style of the film, which seemed, in the writing, to be something that should have been shot on VHS. Having said that - the props and the inventor's performance were so great that this was still an outstanding film.

Vic is a fuser, not an inventor. He fuses two objects together to make our lives better like the Tapeler. Some very funny acting and scenes but didn't feel it had the payoff that it was building towards.

Some great camera work, art direction, and solid acting. I don't know about the genre though? Crime would make the subject of a doco the 'crime' not the 'character'. Also, the doco thing is very old school 48 hours the audiences now are wanting more. You had the talent there to make a great short crime movie. Still a stand out film of the night.

Stand out film. Great production, quirky humor with well cast lead. Enjoyed the lighthearted spin on the genre and look forward to checking it out in the final.
Good production and great quality, but I found the story a bit cheesy.

Great work from the team, Both main actors gave an outstanding performance, very convincing and very funny. Sound was excellent as well as cinematography. See you guys in the Finals Well done.
Loved the film. Naturally, I'm biased. But will have to agree with others regarding whether the genre fit was as accurate as it needed to be. Go team go!!

Loved it thought it was well executed ...but lets be honest it is a total rip off from 2011 Auckland winner the Jumpers! Same story, same camera technique same editing...not original at all.Great try thou...

Hmm, I was expecting better from Sideways Productions, but certainly not bad.

Was planning to rate this film a little higher but after looking back at the 2011 film that is brought up in another post was surprised by the similarities. Also does not gel as a 'crime' film in my mind and does feel like the idea was preconcieved prior to the comp (although I guess this is something only the team knows). In saying that it was differnatly one of the more entertaining films of the night and technically very sound.

I had no gripe with play with the genre, there was a crime...why does a crime genre movie have to be like a serious crime? Funny, clever, well shot and paced. Enjoyment received.
