One of my favourites in the heat, Vic Meyer gets a job looking after "Wolfie" while the owner is away and the neighbour who is fed up with the dog barking all night presumably poisons the dog. Appart from the camera work which was a bit crap there was some pretty funny gags in this one, it ended pretty abruptly but I'm not sure if that didn't work for the film.
Dogs Breakfast
Vic is a dogsitter but the dog is poisoned buy one of three neighbours. Not much of a story but some funny acting
Was this a double crime film 1) Someone kills a dog... then 2) That dude at the Bus Stop steals it... Anyway, for crime #1, we're intro'd to the Dog Sitter, in town to baby sit a dog (that gets no screen time). She gets warned about a 'Samurai Sword Swinging' Neighbour. We meet him next (the Dog is keeping him (Vic) awake)... there are other suspects that don't get specific mentions such as the snobby female neighbour. Next up the sitter finds the dog dead and (I get a little lost here) calls the Vet, confirms it's dead, but then takes it to the Vet's anyway. Which worked because we get an awesome cut to her dragging a suit-case clearly holding the dog (once again, they've filmed this without a Dog). This is where crime #2 kicks in and we get our first 'Trunk Shot' of the evening (POV from dead dogs eyes)? I liked this film, thought it was well put together. One last question, was the Samurai neighbour imagining the dog barks?

Great acting by the lead actress. Some genuinely funny moments. A better end would have made this film awesome.

Good acting and a good little story. Plenty of genuine laughs throughout the film, solid effort.
Hot Toddy
This was my favourite movie of the heat! It incorporated all the given elements so smoothly, ending on a magic P.O.V shot at the end. It portrayed distinguishable and unique characters from (absent) dogs that wear slippers to meditating insomniac samurai masters and was superbly acted by all. I just want to keep on following their stories! This simple double crime story unfolded clearly and timely and was kept alive by funny characters and delivery of lines. In places the camera work lacked some of the finesse of other films in the heat but overall this was an awesome effort. Some may feel short-changed by the ending, but for me, I was left begging for more - which can only be a good thing!

Refreshing to see an engaging, funny story and kooky characters. Spot -on acting all round, the lead actress was fantastic in particular. I would have liked to have seen how she dealt with the situation with the criminals and which of the neighbours killed the dog. probably not enough time. The film lacked a bit in production value against some strong work from the other teams but overall I thought it worked really well.

Good acting, genuinely funny without overplaying the jokes, the laughs came from a look or situation (without relying on dialogue). Also edited in a way that added to the natural comic timing of the actors. They understood their genre well and it was one of the few in the heat where I clearly understood the set up and so was able to follow closely what was going on (some confusion in the other films). The only let down for me was the ending. There's no tension or interest in the discovery of the dead dog in the suitcase because the bus stop thief has only been introduced a few shots earlier (and we've known the dog is dead from about half way through the film). I've tried thinking of a better ending but I can't so I guess what they have is better than mine. (perhaps somehow tying the bus stop thieves to the girl leaving for the 'tron at the start? Or having the bus stop thieves pulled over by a cop, asked what was in the contents of the bag, have them take a guess, then reveal the dead dog?) Despite a somewhat anti-climactic ending I will say I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. My favourite of the heat.
