The winner of the second heat. From what I remember the atmosphere in the film was really well done. The dark gritty colors were visually compelling and it did create a sense of suspense and had some people on the edge of their seats. The film was visually spectacular but some editing and sound issues really let it down. It might have been deliberate but I felt that in parts it came across as amatuerish.... (I know that's not a word) The sound levels (quite noticeably when the girl screams) made my ears ring near the end. Strong contender for the top prize but it's anyones game from here....
I'm a little biased as this is the only one I've seen, was working through the heats dammit! Anyway, I love the gritty visuals, and weird editing shot. We've seen so many perfectly produced films in this comp and we wanted to really stir things up and make it a true horror film in true indie fashion, if it was perfectly preened it wouldn't be as horrible right? Also due to changes at the last minute and people swaps due to working and preferences we actually made this film in 24 hours as we couldn't start til 6pm Saturday night! :D. I love the shots and angles my favourite being the first POV shot from the victim, the dark almost art house feel and the fact it didn't step away from horror at any time;)

It's the only film I've seen too, I was gigging in Napier and missed the heats. Good shots, creepy atmosphere, incredible sound track, good acting and a nice twist at the end. Sound editing and colour grading was on the agenda, but time ran out, although it does add to the underground feel of the whole movie.
Unfortunately at our screening in heat 2 the issue was for the entire heat, how bright the venue was, with sunlight coming through the skylights it made anything that was visually dark very hard to see (90% of our film :/ ). -- Aside from these technical issues, the film itself was amazing! Dark, gritty and atmospheric, some really chilling scenes that had the audience clenching. Oscar winning stuff! 10/10
