Very well done cinematography and fantastic transition between scenes and sets, this was further aided by a very strong cast. Very impressed that this was filmed in 48hrs. A movie to watch!

Beautiful imagery and scenes! Would have preferred a stronger plot line but was good none the less, well done.

With a stronger indication on the plot line this would have been my favourite. I felt as though the plot was weak with little indication of direction. However great actresses and actors + a variety of technical skills behind the camera and editing. Overall this one stood out to me. Pity that the plot line did not support the strengths because otherwise it would have been a definite finalist in my opinion.

I have to say I'm really surprised this got so many votes. I found this plot to be really convoluted and would have been much better simplified, some scenes I find myself still confused about. The cinematography was pretty good, some nice shots.

I'm also pretty flabbergasted that this film got as many votes as it did. It definitely had some nice photography, but unfortunately photography is only one element of filmmaking. It felt like this team just wanted to recreate scenes from their favorite films - my reaction to watching it went something like this: "Oh it's The Princess Bride, oh it's Game of Thrones, oh it's Krull, oh it's The Matix..." and on and on. There's nothing wrong with homage per se but none of the scenes that they were stealing from other movies ever came together in a clever way, or even in a way that made sense. As with almost all of the films in this heat - you could definitely pay more attention to the quality of your sound recording and mix next year. Some of the costumes were really, really great!

I have to confess I didn't entirely understand this film. The costumes, props and makeup were all very good; however the story made very little sense. It seemed to jump from scene to scene with little to no logic and I just had no idea what was going on half the time. That said, they obviously had something of a budget and it really did show.

Apart from the visuals which were alright, there was not much else going on. The story was incoherent and I was hoping for it to be over. edit. Is there any chance that the nepotism from all people rating this could stop?

Well this is interesting isn't it! I am a little late entering a review and I am surprised to see this film is rather polarising. We begin with two girls reading a book, so I’m thinking to myself “oh hey, princess bride is a cool way to handle fantasy’ but then this is Mystery or Puzzle and a parallel story narrative is more Film within a Film. Then we get into a CSI story, which somehow related to people running around Auckland in costume. I was confused. So many genres. That’s why I’m not rating it as highly as other people here. However, big shot outs to a team that had the spirit to utlise locations and sweet costumes. This looked like a fun project to part of. They should totally enter again. concentrate on genre and on making a clearer story we can follow.

thought it was clever, simple story line but laid out to make you think, two forces fighting for a ball that contains the balance of life, cops trying to work out whats happening ends up with the magic ball taking it home to his family which were the girls telling the story, took advantage of locations, some good cinematography, pretty unreal really for 48 hours

Very well put together, well scripted , brilliant idea! I just loved this movie can't believe the amount of negative comments it's getting! 48 hours is a very short time to make a film and this... This film was hands down the best film created, the amount of professionalism is crazy, parts where I wished there was alittle more explanation on the story line but you only had 7 minutes so I realise that. Overall great job hope to see this one in the Auckland city heats!!!

Low budget but good quality movie. Give credits to the producer and director. Must see!

This is a very ambitious film which manages to mostly pull it off and look surprisingly good. Has got many beautiful and well chosen shots throughout to provide the eye candy. The on location sound is at times rather on the weak side, but the extra sound design done in post really pulls it all together and makes it sound much better. Clearly the story here is the biggest weakness of the film, hence I called it "ambitious" to put it politely, in trying to do too much all at once, almost as if the script had been written beforehand to be all things to everybody and cover all the genres rather than just picking one and making a strong go at it. As it was it the story at times was almost a little confusing as it rushed through so much so fast, but it did make the time go by fast, surprisingly fast and the 6 minutes or so was over almost before I realised it! However for all its strengths and weaknesses, given the time constraints of 48hrs it does well, and out of all the films in its heat I really enjoyed watching the beautiful imagery and will give this full marks.

I have spent over a week trying to work out how that whole film was made in 48 hours, I can't say I have ever seen that amount of effort ever in a short film especially not made in 48 hours, it moved quickly and I don't feel as though I saw the whole thing. I think this group should come back next year so I can watch the sequel. Loved it people, would like to watch it again, great ideas and actors, well done, I'm still scratching my head how you pulled it off in the time frame, actors showed great emotion, good expression handled some heavier areas of script, basic storyline was easy to follow with a little twist right on the end when the cop ends up being that ids dad, good pace it was the only one I didnt feel completely bored watching, well actually there are two films that stood out for me and this was one of them, great job, thanks

Default Avatar mistermbe

I think the movie showed a lot of potential for something bigger. Great scenes. Great bunch of people pulling something together and making it look very professional. Nice and easy on the eye. Was one of the best on the night

Default Avatar Ladyin red

.i was very impressed at the standard of this short film looks, like it would have been fun to be involved with don't know how they pulled it off in 48 hrs looks to me like a movie trailer would be a good movie if it could be turned into one. Although not perfect in all things done a flipen great effort well done to all involved. it was my favourite by far very professional hope you guys win

Default Avatar bigfanmovielover

Great cinematography and awesome costumes and story line. If this is what they can do with no budget imagine what they can do if given a proper budget to make an actual feature film...love it! Did get a bit confusing but Its probably because they only had 7 minutes to show a whole movie which I think is pretty difficult to do. All in all best out of the lot I have seen. Well done guys.

The Movie was well put together, With a great use of costumes and background locations. The plot line was a little hard to follow, But for 7 minute film it was well done. I would like to see an extended version of this movie it looks like it may have potential for a great story line. Well done I enjoyed it :-)

If only this short was as intriguing and organised as the cast and crews bizarre efforts to flood the reviews of it! The idea that people will believe reviews that contain intmate knowledge of the crew and production process are genuine is fascinating, especially when the reviews don't mean anything for the competition. What do they hope to gain? Do they not understand the importance of genuine feedback to creative/commercial endeavours? Do they honestly believe this was a ten star movie, perfect in every way? How do they reconcile making a film they believe is literally perfect and not winning? Someone needs to make a documentary short about these guys! *Edited to clarify for the person below me: Yes I did see this film, as well as all the rest at this and other heats. You'll notice that no one who gave this film 10 stars has reviewed any other films. Regardless, what I've written above is 100% genuine, I am completely intrigued by the thought processes that lead to this situation. I am genuinely interested in seeing a documentary about it.

wasn't coming on here to write a review for this film but while looking for my sons film which showed on the same night and reading all the reviews especially from the person above me I thought I would offer my two cents worth. Visually this was the best film I saw, it looked as though it had been put together by an actual proper working film crew, there were parts where the sound quality was not great, but I did listen and I found the story did make sense and very advanced for what I was expecting to see and to the others if comparing. I challenge the last reviewer to admitt if he watched the film because all he spoke about was the reviews with no mention of the actual film, I notice also that the same reviewers have also posted reviews on other films that night apart from the sour puss sounding person more concerned about others reviewing

Default Avatar howton

I really liked the overall theme and story to this. It was captivating and entertaining, but in saying that I think it would have been a clear winner on the night had they put it together a little better. Great cast choices and some awesome shooting! Well done to this team

Default Avatar siraza

I definitely felt the mystery theme category here, and was intrigued in where it was taking me. Good cinematography, beautiful scenery, and stunning wardrobe.

Default Avatar Dell

This film had absolutely no direction whatsoever. It seemed like the writer or whoever bore the concept was interested in displaying the fact that there was a budget because the storyline made no sense to me and others. The film was overly ambitious and had the storyline been half decent like the editing, camera shots and acting, this could have had some serious potential. This film left me dazed, confused and rather annoyed that because this crew had the money they just slapped together a bunch of random scenes without pulling it together in the end. Once it ended I wasn't left pondering the possibilities of what happened in the film, I was left confused as to what on earth this was about. By far, the film had the most potential? yes probably had there been some sense to the plot.

Default Avatar jasonmewes

People keep saying the acting was good in this. Sorry but why did the dad/ cop type guy keep changing his accent from a fake american one to a nz one?

Default Avatar film addiction

The team that had the budget, had to be the most envied and talked about film outside after the viewing, Visually the best film there on the night, the story I have to agree was told in a complex manner but I like intelligent plots that make you think which I feel we were robbed with by the addition of the voice over that explained the whole thing, I loved the location, costumes and of all the films it had the most cinematographical feel and advanced story line, the suond let you down in areas, ,talent showed great expression through the scripted areas

Default Avatar sleepless in suburbia

I have actually given this production 2 more stars on the count that the family and friends of another team seem to be registering just to vote these people down Eli and Greg Cantwell which I find is very unprofessional and shows bad sportsmanship also. Ok back to the film, I hear the word ambitious when I hear people talk about this film and I have to agree, however I found the locations and the glitz and the glam along with the cinematography worked, I was also able to keep up with the story line, I think the biggest problem that I saw was the sound inconsistancy which might explain why some people were left confused, looking forward to seeing what you come up with next year

Default Avatar 48hourlover

This is hilarious that we have "haters" only one good thing came out of your unprofessional review Eli. And that's that you corrected my mistake of 3/10 to which I went and gave a 9/10 and deducted 1 grade only because how unprofessional you reacted to a simple mistake that has since been cleared. I also find It hilarious of the accusations as being part of the crew. I have no idea who any of them are but genuinely enjoyed their attempt to make something out of their own comfort zones. I sat through at least 3 heats and the ones I remembered are the only ones I reviewed. For all the unwarranted hate and distastefull behavior I will give this another 10/10. I hope all these reviews don't hinder the movies ability and apologies to the crew for having to hear from me again.

Man, you have GOT to get better at lying. "We have haters" and "They made something out of their comfort zone" don't really belong in there if you're also going to claim you have no idea who anyone involved in the film was. As the heat was open to cast and crew only, were you in another team? It's quite an amazing coincidence that almost all the people who gave this a 10 made the same weird mistake you did of either "accidentally" giving low star amounts to films they claimed to like, or forgetting that any other film was shown. As soon as the review page opened there were three identical ten star reviews with different usernames and no other films reviewed. Paulette, if you're genuinely not aware of the douchebaggery going on here, I'm sorry for the stress this is probably causing you. I know you claim that it doesn't seem like anyone in your team, but it seems fairly unlikely a stranger would be that invested in this film getting fake ten star reviews, which help no one. The review system is actually a great service most of the time, because outside input helps us all make better films. If anything, the fake ten stars are doing you a disservice because the bits that could be improved, wont.

Hi Paulette. I agree. I have removed all our reviews. Cheers.
