Extract of Feminine Essence

This film managed to pull off crazy without alienating the audience. They executed some really great visuals but didn't hit the mark with their genre; z-grade.

Some nice Z grade gags and good tempo. Farts never fail. It did seem faux-Z rather than true Z though.

EXTRACT OF FEMININE ESSENCE IS A SEARING LOOP INTO AN INSANE ABYSS THAT HAS SOME OF THE CRAZIEST SHOTS I HAVE EVER SEEN IN 48HOURS. THE DUDE COMING OUT OF THE WATER WAS ABSOLUTELY STARTLING AND THE BLACK AND WHITE MIXED FACES IN THE CAR ALSO SHOWED A COMMITMENT TO CRAFTING SOMETHING OTHERWORLDY. HAVING SAID THAT THIS IS A HARD ONE TO RATE GIVEN IT DRAWS A FINE LINE BETWEEN PARODY OF GENRE, SURREAL AUTEURSHIP AND WHETHER THE LACK OF LINEARITY TO THE PLOT IS A BENEFIT OR A HINDRANCE. POINTS FOR ORIGINALITY MOST DEFINITELY.

Lots of good stuff in this short. The z-grade stuff in the bedroom - especially that quality boom mic gag - were well executed and had me chuckling. The surrealist stuff on the beach had a bunch of cool moments like the backwards footage and the costuming. Unfortunately, these two different aspects don't really work together. As cool as the beach stuff is, it feels like it ignores the z-grade elements the bedroom scene sets up. As a result, the whole short feels like two different films working against each other. I think this team just got a difficult genre, because they've clearly got skill.
