A woman talks to her PepTok device which gives her a string of motivational sayings based on the phrase she says. Chillybox did a good job of this, with a story I don't recall seeing before. Simple, yet effective.
Another solid effort by the forever polished Chillybox team. I really dig this team and how they always seem to wring the maximum level of awesomeness from their location, actors and genre to create believable and polished worlds and stories. Good job as always
First things first, a little disappointed to see a team back down from doing Ultra after doing it last year. I totally get it (Ultra was super off-putting last year) but I think I expected a previous national winner to always rise to that challenge. But whatever, who cares. This short totally feels like an episode of Black Mirror, which I assume is what you were going for and that the peeps running the comp were looking for. Some great cinematography and creation of atmosphere in here. I can’t quite put my finger on it, it felt like all the parts were there in terms of story, but they didn’t quite come together in the way I’d hoped. Maybe it's me, but the ending fell a little flat for me, it is hard to show someone falling down the stairs and not having look a little bit silly.
So....the elephant in the room of this film's director having for the 2nd time in 4 years written a suicide-centered film that placed at the national finals? Yeah I'm assuming most are going to not care given it just took out the Apee (congrats by the way). For me personally this has got to be the most divisive winner the comp has ever seen. Yes challenging and technically brilliant plus perfectly performed it just didn't tick the boxes for me personally in terms of engagement and it's really hard to put my finger on it. Will come back to edit this review once I've pondered a bit more and re-watched.
