Carparking through the Multiverse

by Nicky Fury's Avengers Squad

Our main character chases his alternate self through the carpark multiverse and discovers a little bit about himself along the way.

A real shame about losing the audio here. I think for the most part the dubbing worked well, however unfortunately not all the dubbed performances matched with the same enthusiasm of the acted ones.

Some cool camerawork throughout, an interesting premise, although I got a little lost plot-wise on who the characters were chasing? But I think a meaningful story at it’s heart, perhaps it just struggles a little to fully communicate itself.

Given I've just lost a parking dispute over a ticket with Wilson Parking (fuck you Wilson Parking) this film was one that I highly enjoyed as the multiverse as we know it was on the verge of implosion due to one of the versions of the protagonist having racked up so many fines. Pretty sure the team didn't lose their audio, with the whole thing ADRd and filled with foley to elevate a fairly plain situation into one that felt more like Italian grindhouse in tone. And well being that I'm a huge Bruno Mattei fan, trust me this isn't a bad thing.

A very potty mouthed film and then a really inventive centrepiece funhouse bit of setpiece cinema with fake carparks and guerilla Sam Raimi inspired camerawork.

Not all the dubbing did work, and I'd just implore you to get some of those lip synchs a bit tighter next time. But the sound design itself shone with car sounds and concrete impact even from boots stepping along all being pleasantly done.

Genuinely iffy about the final line to the film, to the point I'm gonna leave out commenting on it as I think I might have missed the point there.

Still a fun film to me, just even cleaner soon and a slightly more cohesive narrative and you would have really been onto a winner.

Crazy times in the carpark!
What an interesting film and team this is - enough technical know-how to know that ADR is probably the way to go, and yet it was so poorly synched to the action that it completely transforms the film.

This is a weird film, but the good kind of weird.

I really enjoy the premise, and I think it's quite an original take on the multiverse, however we're given VERY brief peeks into these other universes, and the ones we do see seem to be negligibly different to our universe (or at least the universe the main characters are from, I'm not sure if it's ours).

I think a big way to improve the story could have been to really focus on making some cool distinct alternate universes - not just with the character costumes, but how much could dress up that parking lot to look like, say, a forest? Or a winter tundra? I think even if this all looked scrappy, it would have made your film even more charming.

Silly but fun characters. Good work on giving these characters an emotional pay off, and the last baffling line of the whole film is pretty funny too.

Challenge for next year: I think if you can build this sense of humour into a film that is more technically up to snuff, you could be a fierce team in the comp.

I liked some aspect of this film but not others. I liked how you traveled the multiverse by going back and forward. I loved the "multiverse translator" - although I think it was only used once :)

I thought the acting was good, I liked the story within the story and the developing relationship and awkwardness that your film evoked. I liked the story you were trying to tell and the way you played with it within your given genre.

A couple of issues with the dialogue recording as mentioned before. Myself, and I may be wrong, I think you lost the sound, or there was so much background noise that ended up on the recorder that you couldn't use it :) One day you will have to let us know if it was deliberate or accidental ADR :)

I'm afraid that I found the car park attendant redundant. I saw no real benefit of the character and to be honest I found the swearing offensive. I don't mind swearing where it's justified but I don't think it was here. Bait for the judges?

Overall an interesting film that I watched a few times to get a feel for. Some nice shots as well. The performances are the highlight for me. Good job.

This film had possibilities. I think the idea of the chase through the multiverse of the car park was a good plan. Where I got confused was that the car park so obviously changed where I was under the impression that they were operating in the same car park. I think if it HAD played out this way with us seeing differences in that car park the whole thing would have felt a lot tighter. Near misses by the chasers could have added more tension or even if the attendant was the actual villain of the piece. And, yeah not really sure of the intended meaning of the final line.

Most have mentioned the syncing of the ADR and the other thing to watch out for is the shadow of your camera-op. Certainly an unusual short so keep that up in the future!
